Paddle Boarding

Gear You Need for Stand up Paddle Boarding

Are you interested in paddle boarding but not sure where to begin? At Jordanelle Rentals & Marina, we rent stand up paddleboards (SUPs) to many residents and visitors to the Park City area. If you’re planning a day out on the water with a paddle board, you will want to make sure you have all the necessary gear and equipment for a safe and exciting time.

Paddle Board & Paddle

For spending a day on the water paddle boarding, you have to have a paddleboard with a paddle. For those who don’t have one of their own, you can rent one from Jordanelle. We rent them in 1-hour, 2-hour, or 4-hour increments. This is also a great way to try out paddle boarding before you purchase one for yourself.

Proper Clothing

Most people choose to wear a swimsuit while paddle boarding. They may also wear board shorts or sun protection clothing. You may want to bring along a hat or sunglasses as it can be difficult to see with the sun reflecting off the water. Be sure to not forget the sunscreen!

Life Jacket

Because a SUP is a water vessel, the U.S. Coast Guard requires individuals to have a life jacket or personal flotation device onboard. Adults are not required to wear them while paddle boarding but children must.

Leash

A leash fastens you to the SUP, keeping you attached to it in the event you fall off. By remaining attached to the board, it won’t float away from you, and you can still get back on and continue paddling.

Safety Gear

While you don’t necessarily need these items for paddle boarding, they will help if you have any trouble while out on the water. A safety whistle can warn other nearby boaters that you’re in the area, or it can alert others on the water if you need assistance. A light can be very helpful if you’re paddling after sunset, making it easy for boaters to see and not run into you.
